Originally started as a chick hatchery business, A.B. Hatchery & Garden Center was founded in the early 1940s by Mr. Yale Butler. Familiar with the business since childhood, Butler’s business hatched and sold baby chicks, as well as sold a full line of poultry and livestock equipment and feed.
Homer H. “Mike” McCain began working at A.B. Hatchery on March 9, 1953. He eventually became a partner in the business before purchasing it on July 1, 1961. A family owned and operated business; his sons Jeff and Lynn McCain bought the business from their father on January 1, 1978. “Mike” McCain continued to work as an employee/owner at the hatchery until his death
on April 12, 2008.
A.B. Hatchery & Garden Center has evolved over the years in order to meet the needs and demands of their customers. As one of Bloomington’s original garden centers, their success has been largely influenced by their expertise within the industry and their commitment to personal service. Experts in providing advice for various lawn, plant and critter problems, the McCains also provide their customers with hard-to-find items, special orders, bulk packages, and will even carry your purchases to your vehicle for you.

From pet and livestock feed to all your lawn & gardening needs, including seasonal and decorative items, we offer a comprehensive selection of brand names and products for your convenience.
